Bisolvon is recommended for all types of cough of catarrhal nature, especially in cases of bronchial mucus of viscous consistency, as well as bronchitis syndromes with spasmodic component predominance. Cough in flu and colds, allergic catarrh, whooping cough. Acute, chronic, spasmodic and asthmatic bronchitis. Emphysematous bronchitis. Bronchial asthma. Pneumonia, bronchopneumonia and pleuritis. Pneumoconiosis, pulmonary tuberculosis.

BISOLVON ® Bromhexine COMPOSITION
Oral solution
Composition
5 ml. contains:
Bromhexine hydrochloride 2,5 mg.
Diphenhydramine hydrochloride 7,5 mg.
Ephedrine hydrochloride 7,5 mg.
Codeine hydrochloride 10 mg.

Excipients of Bisolvan:

Sodium benzoate (E 211), citric acid, sodium hydroxide, raspberry aroma, amaranth (E 123), glycerol (E 422), sorbitol, povidone, ethanol 6% (v/v) and purified water qs.

Pharmaceutical form and contents of package
Bisolvon is available in bottles containing 125 ml. and 200 ml. of oral, sugar free syrupy solution.

Activity of Bisolvan
The mucolytic expectorant effect of bromhexine, together with the antitussive and bronchodilator effect of the other components, permits fluidification of bronchial secretions, calms cough, facilitates expectoration and improves respiration.

Dosage of Bisolvan

Adults:

The recommended dose is 1 or 2 teaspoons (5 - 10 ml.) three times a day and a further 2 teaspoons before going to bed.

Children over 6 years of age:
The recommended dose is 1 teaspoon (5 ml.) three times a day.

Children under 6 years of age:
The recommended dose is half a teaspoon (2,5 ml.) three times a day.

Long term therapy and the administration of excessive doses of Bisolvan may cause dependence.

Contraindications of Bisolvan:
Respiratory depression, severe high blood pressure, gastric ulcer, glaucoma and prostatic hypertrophy with residual urine formation. Hypersensitivity to any of the components of this medication.

Precautions with Bisolvan:
Bisolvon should be administered with caution in cases of severe organic cardiovascular disorders and heart rhythm disorders.

Interactions of Bisolvan:
Codeine may potentiate the sedative effect of CNS depressants, such as anxiolytics, antipsychotics, antihistamines and alcohol. The simultaneous administration of tricyclic antidepressants or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) with codeine may potentiate the effects of both medications. The simultaneous administration of codeine and anticholinergics may increase the risk of constipation and intestinal obstruction.

It should be taken into account that Bisolvon® compositum contains the following excipients:

Sodium benzoate: may slightly irritate eyes, skin and mucous membranes. It may increase the risk of yellow colouring of the skin (jaundice) in newborns.
Amaranth: may cause allergic type reactions, including asthma especially in patients that are allergic to acetylsalicylic acid.
Glycerol: may be harmful at high doses. It may cause headache, stomach upset and diarrhoea.
Sorbitol 2,45 gr. per 5 ml. It may cause stomach upset and diarrhoea. It must not be used in patients with hereditary fructose intolerance.
6% ethanol, final volume. Each 5 ml. contains 0,24 mg. of ethanol, which may be the cause of risk in children, pregnant women and patients with hepatic disease, alcoholism, epilepsy, cerebral damage or injury. It may change or potentiate the effect of other medications.

Sportsmen / women should be aware that Bisolvan contains a component, which may give a positive result in a doping control analysis.

Important note for women taking Bisolvan:

If you are pregnant or think you could be, consult your doctor before taking Bisolvan. The administration of medications during pregnancy can be dangerous for the embryo or for the foetus; therefore the administration of Bisolvan should be done only under medical supervision.

Adverse reactions to Bisolvan:
Nausea, alteration in bowel elimination, palpitations, dry mouth and somnolence may occur occasionally. These symptoms cease when medication is discontinued. If you notice any other adverse reaction not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Overdose with Bisolvan:
Intoxication is not likely to occur. In the case of extreme overdose nervousness and palpitations may be experienced, these symptoms are treated with the usual supportive measures. Naloxone should be administered in case of respiratory depression.

Expiry:
Bisolvan must not be used after the expiry date indicated on the pack.
